Under the leadership of Raveendran Kodakkad, Associate Director of Karshaka Vidyapeedam, the paddy fields in the region have entered a crucial phase of the cultivation season. The nursery stage has been successfully completed, with vibrant green seedbeds now ready for transplantation

Field preparation has also been finished, with the plots levelled, puddled and irrigated in time for the upcoming operations. Farmers in the area expect to begin transplanting shortly.
This season, the cultivation basket includes widely preferred Kerala varieties such as Chitteni, Kasarkodan, Uma, Prathyasha and Pournami. In addition, two Karnataka varieties — Tulasi and Sun Madhu — have been introduced for trial cultivation, aimed at assessing their adaptability and yield performance under local conditions.
Farmers and extension personnel see the mix of traditional and new varieties as an opportunity to enhance resilience and broaden the region’s seed diversity.
